This is what comes to my mind when I heard the news that Blackberry is soon going to manufacture an Android phone. One just cannot stay away from this OS and everybody is just awe with it. This is possibly yet another example that shows how powerful the Google’s OS has become and how huge companies are bowing down to it.

Nokia in the past had made a mistake of sticking with their own OS and neglecting Android. And guess what? They had to pay the price for it, and a huge one. Blackberry has in some ways followed Nokia in the past by sticking with their own OS. But, this idea has not helped them much. We all saw how Nokia went from being a top mobile manufacturer to getting sold to Microsoft. They could have avoided it if they accepted the Android OS. Blackberry (if the rumors are true) seems to have learned a lesson from that episode or got a wake-up call. The company is not doing well and holds merely a percent of market share which could even drop in coming days. So, going the Android way will certainly do good to this Qwerty phone manufacturer.
A few sources have told Reuters that, we will be seeing an Android device from Blackberry this autumn. When inquired how the phone will look like, we were told that it will be a touch screen phone which will come with a slider keyboard, something Blackberry have been known for. The Slide Keyboard is for the people who are hardcore Blackberry fans and use their phone only because of their beautiful keyboards. People who are not used to it can just ignore it. The phone description that we received sounds similar to the device Blackberry teased at the Mobile World Congress recently.
No doubt Blackberry has produced some great mobile devices in the past and hopefully continue to do so. But, their OS is just not up to the mark and producing phone running an Android OS will certainly give this organization a new lease of life and strengthen their market share. The BB10 device which was introduced by the company and was looked up as the savior of the company has failed to deliver to the expectations.
Let’s hope the rumors are true and we soon get to see a Blackberry Android phone.
We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched Said the company in an email, when approached for an official statement.
