The popularity of Android smartphones today is unbelievable, with a recent study stating that the adoption rate of mobile devices will continue to rise until 2017. The total mobile users will likely reach 5.13 billion globally. The same study featured by Daze Info said that one of the driving forces of the high adoption was the rise of affordable smartphones that are able to run 4G internet.
Most budget-friendly handsets are running Google’s mobile OS. Today, Android has stern competition with the arrival of Apple’s 4-inch handset, the newest budget-friendly iPhone on the market. Based on the information shared by O2, this smartphone is not your ordinary affordable device as Apple ensured it’s “the most powerful 4-inch phone ever” that comes with premium features, such as Apple Pay, fingerprint scanning tech, and 64-bit processing power.
However, Android device manufacturers are willing to face the challenge and raised the bar by producing their line of affordable smartphones with powerful and premium specifications. Here are some of the suggested devices to purchase this year:
Motorola Moto G:
One of the most loved budget Android smartphones has now released its third version through the arrival of the Moto G. This handset is equipped with a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor supported by its 8GB storage and a 1GB RAM. The other version comes with 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. Other specifications include a 13-megapixel main cam, 5-megapixel front cam, longer 2470mAh battery, and a 5-inch 720p LCD. This smartphone, which retails at under $200, runs Android Lollipop out of the box, but it can be upgraded to the Marshmallow version.
Huawei honor 5X:
Another handset below the $200 price mark is Huawei’s honor 5X handset with dual-SIM ports. Many mistake it for a premium smartphone due its all-metal finish and mounted fingerprint sensor on the home button, which is some of the features you don’t usually see on a budget device. Its other superb features include a large 5.5-inch Full HD screen, Snapdragon 616 processor supported by 16GB storage that is expandable up to 128GB, 13-megapixel snapper, and a powerful 3000mAh battery. Given its overall specifications, Android Authority dubbed this handset as “one of the best budget-friendly smartphones currently available.”
Compact. Fast. Powerful. These are the words that describe the OnePlus X, a budget-friendly counterpart of its older brother, the One Plus 2. The smartphone boasts a 5-inch AMOLED screen with a Snapdragon 801 processor, and 3GB RAM paired with a microSD slot, which is expandable up to 128GB. This dual-sim handset also features premium chipsets for 4G LTE connection and NFC that is compatible with Android Pay and other mobile payment system apps.
Asus ZenFone 2:
An eye-catcher during the CES 2015, the Asus latest flagship, ZenFone 2 was originally marketed as “the first smartphone with 4GB RAM.” Asus made sure its powerful RAM is supported with a powerhouse list of specifications, such as its 5.5-inch 1080p screen, large 3000mAh, 13-megapixel rear camera, and a powerful 64-bit Intel Atom processor. Android Central comments this handset for its excellent performance for a low-budget handset, longer battery life, and an excellent camera, making it a great value for your money.
Given Android’s open source feature, expect that more mobile manufacturers will turn to this platform to release their budget smartphones this year. Apple’s recently released 4-inch handset has plenty of competition to take down before ruling the top spot on the affordable smartphone arena.
